Setting the Scene – ePortfolios at Reignier

  • Since the beginning of 2011 all teachers have been supported in the setting up of an eportfolio using Spike@school.
  • In catering for the varied levels of expertise, teachers have been provided with individualised levels of instruction.
  • The creation of staff eportfolios has been focused on through ICT Spotlights during staff meetings. Outside the staff meeting, where there is a need, teachers have felt comfortable seeking out the ICT Leader to support their learning stage. There has been an increase in professional dialogue around ICT development across the school.
  • This means that every teacher has an eportfolio and some have been empowered to develop this with greater proficiency for themselves and their students.
  • Some students have been supported to create and develop an eportfolio.
  • As part of the schools appraisal system, teachers are setting personal ICT goals and are striving to relate these to the ICT project.
  • Our teacher goals and our overall school goals are directly aligned to the school’s inquiry framework.
  • The common thread for our eportfolios has been teaching as inquiry, with the context being writing. We are gathering data, links, resources, and feedback about our writing teaching. Reflection on this is driving our teaching actions.
  • We are using Spike@school as we already had this product in place. We felt that this would then minimise extra learning for the teachers and that parents were already familiar with the school website system.
  • To progress our eportfolios we are dedicating a portion of each staff meeting to ICT. We are doing this either in the computer suite or on the new netbooks in the staffroom. During this time there is an element of ‘how to’ teaching of new tools and the opportunity for teachers to build on their eportfolios. We are working towards sharing our eportfolios amongst our colleagues and inviting feedback. At this stage some teachers are spontaneously adding to their eportfolios as they grow in skill and confidence.
